LANGUEDOC TASTER TOUR
This tour is designed as a taster to provide a broad flavour of the charms of the Languedoc, with visits to Cathar sites, Minerve village, Perypertuse Castle and the Abbey of Frontfroide plus the spectacular Gorge du Galymus. A day in the magical spell of Carcassonne Cite will be combined with a boat ride on the canal du midi. Other stunning locations include Rennes Le Chateau, Esperaza Sunday market, the medieval village of Mirepoix plus the idyllic fishing village of Collioure. Some might also be tempted to take a trip on the Pyrenean mountain train as it snakes its way up through a number of villages whilst visiting the ancient walled town of Villefranche de Conflent.
CATHAR TRAIL
History is revealed as we take in such sites as Albi, the Cathar museum at Mazamet, Beziers, Carcassonne, Frontfoide Abbey, the Castles of Perypertuse, Lastours, Montsegur and Foix . We will also experience the charms of the medieval town of Mirepoix, Collioure fishing village, and much more as we pass through stunning countryside and villages such as Lagrasse and Minerve whilst taking advantage of the flavoursome cuisine and wines of this diverse and dramatic region.
ART HISTORY & LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR
This region is famous for a number of artists who lived or spent time in this striking area. The tour takes in the Toulouse Lautrec museum in Albi, Cordes sur ciel ( village in the sky) plus the modern art musem of Ceret and Salvador Dali's museum in Figueras (Northern Spain). We will also visit Collioure, a beautiful fishing village frequented by such artists as Picasso and Matisse plus Dali's home town of Cadaques on the Spanish coast. Other stunning locations to inspire the creative juices such as a drive through the Gorge du Galymus, Peyrepertuse castle and Rennes le Chateau plus stunning views from the Col de Mollo across the pyrenees and coastal villages will be on the agenda.
WINE/GASTRONOMY & BEAUTIFUL VILLAGES
The Languedoc has in recent times enhanced its reputation for good quality and innovative wines where the traditions of the old vineculture and ideas from the new world blends have fused together to create some excellent modern wines to sit alongside the more established historical vintages. This tour encompasses visits to high quality Domaines of the Corbieres, Minervois, Razes, Banyuls, Fitou and Cotes du Roussillon, not forgetting the famous Blanquette de Limoux. The tour will include a visit to the wine school at Domaine Gayda including a dinner to accompany the wines produced here. Visits to beautiful villages such as Lagrasse, Fabrezan, Maury, Minerve and Collioure plus a trip on the Canal du Midi and time to enjoy the splendours of Carcassonne will add something special to the tour. It is designed to bring together the varied natural beauty of the languedoc with its excellent dishes and bouquet of fine wines.
MOUNTAIN LAKE/WATERFALL & COASTAL VILLAGE WALKS
In the summer months of July to September we can take advantage of the warmer climate for gentle walks in the Pyrenees with its wonderful lakes, waterfalls and varied fauna, besides the cathar trails which have long attracted the discerning nature lovers. Views across this range are stunning, combining vistas into both France and Spain. This tour offers a variety of gentle walks (between 3 to 5 hours) in the mountains but also to include a trail to a Cathar Castle and coastal walks around the beautiful villages of Collioure and Banyuls, plus Peryiac de Mer where flamingos roam in the shallow waters of the lagoon. With a leisurely stroll along the banks of the canal du midi, this tour provides a wide diversity of scenery for walkers who want a combination of wonderful vistas and gentle excercise. The option to a variety of undeground limestone caves or thermal spas will also be available should inclement weather arrive. This tour focuses on easy walks with great views and therefore should appeal to people of all levels of fitness, but would not suit people with serious physical health conditions or disabilities. Appropriate attire for changeable weather conditions is required as are good walking/hiking shoes.
